How can so much trouble be caused by one simple punctuation mark? It has fractionated and polarized American society to the point that members of the “majority” are in constant fear of offending those who wear the mark. Of course, as Sahib so ably pointed out, there is no right to not be offended, but still the majority walks on eggshells.
I refer not to the mysterious semicolon, which appears to be either the mark used for that “winking” thingie, or a truly harrowing diagnosis to get from your gastroenterologist. No, it is the simple hyphen, and the progressive left’s unquenchable lust for DIVersity, that is the scourge of our nation.
Liberals hyphenate us based on skin color, ancestral origin, sexual preference, religion, body mass index, and any number of other characteristics that can be used to DIVide Americans from one another. Then, they conquer by pandering to subsets of American citizens in order to lock in votes for the next election cycle. The end result is these artificially created minorities are kept in a grotesque political bondage by the Democratic Party, usually to the detriment of their quality of life.
I say ban the hyphen! Let’s start celebrating those things that make us the same. Our love for this great country, our devotion to our families, the freedoms provided us by the Constitution, and our desire for our children to have even better lives than we enjoyed. In short, we all share hopes for “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness”. Our common hopes, dreams, and purposes make us, and our country, great. DIVersity has nothing to do with it.
Here, here! The old, but effective, strategy of divide and conquer. Liberals cannot persuade people on the merits of their arguments, so they attempt to splinter us into as many groups as possible. Then they pit the groups against each other playing on each group's fears and insecurities.
ReplyDeleteI agree. The liberals split people into as many small groups as possible, make them feel afraid, and then offer them "assistance", "affirmative action", and "special protection". Then they line them up in nice little voting blocks, which of course they ferry to the polling stations.
ReplyDeleteWhen clients come into my office, we treat them without regard to their skin color, who they sleep with, pray to, or any other convenient pigeonhole the libs have for them. Unless of course they are wearing KU gear.
ReplyDeleteAmerican citizens have shown themselves to be unwilling or incapable of protecting minority groups. If the citizens are unwilling to police themselves, someone must step in to protect those who need it.
ReplyDeleteI thought the hyphen meant dual citizenship?? Like born in Africa to parents with American citizenship! So an African-American could very well be a white guy! My nephew ? (my niece's husband) is a black man of Haitian descent-why would you call him African-American??
